<h1>Google sees this text as more important</h1>By default, H1 tags aren't the prettiest in terms of formatting, so using a CSS style to override the default look is usually a good idea:
<p>... than this text</p>
H1 { color: blue; font-family: Verdana; font-size: 16px }Sprinkling keywords throughout your page content can also improve your sites keyword density. Keyword density simply means the ratio of optimized keywords to the rest of the content on your page. It is usually expressed as a percentage, and should be between 7% and 10% for each page on your site.
<a href=http://www.yoursite.com>Web development by Company Name</a>... (With your clients permission of course) can help boost your back links, which will help boost your ranking position in searches.

Client back-linking is not a supported practice, from a web developer standpoint I frown at the idea too. You are far better off keeping the page/source clean and benefit from client word-of-mouth.

Backlinks for website developers is problematic. You can put your link on your client's site. But then you usually also have them listed on your own site as part of your portfolio which makes for a link EXCHANGE not a backlink.
I disagree with the comment not to do it. There is nothing wrong with identifying the work as yours. And if your client does not object why should you? After all the design usually remains your copyright anyway. And nothing wrong with a link exchange in this instance. After all it is supposed to bring you potential customers which is what links exchanged are all about. |

I agree with everything except e-mailing other websites to back link to yours. Google has recently changed their policy on reciprocal linking. If anybody has more information on this please e-mail me at iammotivated333@yahoo.com.

Good advice for SEO basics. In step 4, the value of reciprocal links has somewhat been diminished by one major search engine. Other methods are now required to make the time / reward ratio worthwhile.
SE's value links from authority sites so using Squidoo to make a lens related to your niche, Scribd to post article content and Hubpages to stategically reference your own website, will certainly help with marketing and backlinks in general. |
