Introduction
Logos are very important in identifying your business, service or product. It would be beneficial for you to know how you can quickly insert a logo into your webpage using one of the most widely used graphics programs in the world today, Adobe Photoshop.
In this tutorial, I will show you how you can simply download one of our ready to go logo templates and simply drag, drop and resize into your own artwork. You can then add your own text or simply use the graphic portion of the logo alone.
Getting Started
You must have a Photoshop installation to follow this tutorial.
Download a template from the Interspire templates website and unzip the package –
http://www.interspire.com/templates For this exercise I will use the JD_LC041 design shown below.
Looking at the Layers
Photoshop uses layers to compose artwork, so you are able to place objects on certain layers and have one artwork made up of different elements. You use layers to separate a complex artwork into manageable sections.
If you open the logo PSD file in photoshop you will see a background layer with colour swatches and the logo image will be placed on it's own layer above the background layer in the layers palette.

In this case there is no complexity in this artwork.
The section you need is on the one layer.
Drag and Drop into your own artwork
With photoshop, you are able drag layer elements from one file to another by using the move tool.
Make sure you have opened your logo artwork and then open another existing artwork in photoshop (or create a new one). Here I will open a website layout that I have created earlier.

Now select the logo file, it should appear above the new file you opened.

Click on the desired layer to select it, then choose the MOVE tool in the toolbar (if you haven't already got it selected).
Now put your cursor in the middle of the logo image and click and drag the artwork onto your other file. Notice that photoshop will change the cursor to a plus sign to indicate that you are adding a new element to the other file.

After releasing the mouse, you should notice that a new layer has been created automatically with the logo artwork on it.
 | The artwork will be sitting in the middle of nowhere on the new file so you must reposition it using the current move tool. |

You will also need to resize it now, because it isn't really fitting into this setup – it should be smaller. Making sure that the logo layer is selected, go to the menu toolbar and choose >Edit >> Transform >> Scale.

You should then see the layer surrounded by resizing handles.
By dragging the corner squares you can easily pull the artwork into the correct sizing you like.
If you hold down the ‘shift’ key while you drag the corner, the image will resize ‘in proportion’. This is done so that you do not make the artwork look skinny or too flat by resizing using your eyes for measurement.
Adding your own text
Now we have the correct sizing, but the logo still says “Company Name” which renders it unusable at the moment.
Not to worry, I’ll show you how to delete the current text and add your own. You have two easy options.
Use the Eraser tool You can use the eraser tool if you like.

Pick the eraser on the toolbar.
Check the general settings for this tool in the bar that appears at the top of your screen.

The size here is indicated by the number 27.

The visual size of your brush will be indicated by a circle on your artwork. If it is too small then it will take too long to erase. If it is too big, then it might erase too much of your artwork.
When you have the right size, ensure that your logo layer is selected by clicking on it in the layers palette and then you can start erasing the text content that says “company name”
Use the marquee tool This tool is probably the quickest and most accurate way to delete large sections of layers. Click on the marquee tool in the toolbar.

Ensure that you have your logo layer selected in the layers palette and then ‘draw’ a box around the text content by clicking and dragging your mouse from a starting point.
 | I started this box at the top left of the content and finished it at the bottom right. Hit delete to clear the contents. |
Adding your own text Click on the Text tool in the tool bar.

Now click on the point where you want the text to start. Type your business name in and watch the letters appear.
Your text will appear in the current colour that is selected. To change the colour of the text you will need to select it and apply it from the top toolbar that appears.

Click and drag to select your text and then click on the colour swatch in the top toolbar.

The colour palette will then open to allow you to adjust the colour.
Try the other text settings to manipulate the size etc of the text until you are happy with the artwork.
Conclusion
So as you can see, it’s pretty straightforward to add your own logo to your artwork. If you have your own artwork for any promotional item, you can simply add your logo using photoshop.
In this case I can see that maybe my background was a little too dark than I first anticipated for this logo, so I can either play with the brightness in photoshop or I could go back into my original logo illustrator file and obtain the inverted version.
