Published 09/28/2006 by Rodney Amato

Hi Everyone, ActiveKB NX2.3 has been released which you can download from the client area which fixes a few bugs. It also should handle non english languages a bit better then previous versions. Here's the complete list of changes, if you want to know which files have been changed to make it easier to merge in with customised versions, they are listed in the docs/changelog.txt

  • Better error checking during install, on steps with a check only update the config if the check passes ok.
  • Fix it so that clicking the helpful radio in the default template hides the reason box
  • Add a margin to the bottom of search results to space them out a little more
  • Fix the stats to says views instead of comments for most popular category
  • Make it so that the link to the question rated unhelpful is included in the email
  • Add better javascript for centering the frontend login box
  • Fix the alignment of the contact group and give it a required *
  • Add no-cache headers to the backend
  • Change a hard coded string to the the language pack
  • Add a fix for installations that are in under a directory named admin
  • Emails are now all utf-8 encoded
  • Strip style and script tags from the summary text

Hi Rodney,

I didn't realise file changes were documented! - this is really useful to merge changes into a customised front end. Thanks.

Hello Rodney,

We are using ActiveKB at www.pdfprinter.dk

For us eg. the following things would be interesting.

- definabled country flag for questions/replies so that people can see if that is eg. a article written in English, Danish, German already when they see the link to the question
[Rodney: This is an interesting idea. We have a similar idea on the todo list for the next version which may provide a way of implementing something like this. I'll keep this in mind when I am working on that feature]

- Search limitation like "Search only for Danish articles" or "Search only for English articles"
[Rodney: This would go with the last feature]

- Unclear is often when a article got added or edited for users. Of course they can see last added articles but it would be better if each article would shown when created or edited and who the author was
[Rodney: the latest version has placeholders for these, just add and to your frontend template to see this information]

- Any kind of export feature so that we can re-use the one time added articles also at other places or eg. a PDF generation output
[Rodney: This is on the list for the next major release]

- a tight integration to any of your newsletter software. We actually had the plan to say "OK, we will send our registered ActiveKB user every week a newsletter that automatically shows in a smart HTML list the really last added articles so that they can see OK there is some progress. Then we could send a newsletter and say "OK, add the link list with all the articles which got added since 01.09.2006 up to 29.09.2006" and then we just have to click "Send".
That would be smart.
Now we do not even know ourself which articles we added since 01.09.2006 until now and would have to create such newsletter totally manually.
[Rodney: you could use the recently modified rss feed to get the last 10 modifed. If it goes over this it would be pretty easy to modify the rss feed to show more entries and since each entry is in the order it was last modified you could work it out from that. The only problem is that modified questions will also show up in this list]

- We have often users that claim "OK, we often use your ActiveKB knowledbase but can you not send us a PDF file with all articles in category "PDF commands".
This we can of course not do because there is no Export feature at all.
[Rodney: This is on the list for the next major release]

Best regards,
Matthias Jensen
