Split testing your AdWords campaigns

Published 10/19/2006 by Eddie Machaalani

When running adwords campaigns, the better your click thru rate, the lower your cost per click. Getting higher click thru’s on good converting ads also means more sales.

Try testing different ads by running them simultaneously. Firstly, create a second ad to the one that's already running. After about 30 clicks you should be able to see an indication of which ad is getting better click thru’s. (Google automatically rotates the ads for you). Once you've chosen the better performing ad, simply drop the other one, create a new one and the process starts again. This way, you're always improving your ads and clickthru rate.

Try changing slight variances in the ad, such as your call to action, placing benefit before feature etc.
