Sendstudio NX Beta!

Hey all,
I know it has been a long time coming but it has arrived! Sendstudio NX has gone into beta testing! I sent it to a few people on Friday (no major bugs and now all fixed) then a few more today so we'll see how it all goes. Sorry, we're not taking any more beta testers - we have quite a few already.
I'm sure I missed a few things along the way but the feature list is around 100 items long. I must say I'm pretty excited about this release - the user interface looks awesome but it's still nice and simple (thanks to Eddie, Elena & Mitch), the features are all useful (well I think so anyway!) and it will only get better from here.
I'm not sure when the full version will become available (it depends on what's found in the testing) so please don't ask ;) It will be at least 2-3 weeks to give the beta testers plenty of time to try different things and uncover any issues. I've been testing it as much as I can as I've been going, then the guys in the office also doing some heavy rounds of testing found some issues (all fixed of course) so hopefully nothing too critical will show up.
The upgrade process hasn't been done yet, that's the last major thing for me to worry about. I'll be working on that as well as watching for bug reports & questions from the testers.
Not sure what else to say apart from *phew!* it's done!
I have to say thanks to Rod for helping me with sendstudio support, otherwise it would have been a bit longer before this happened ;)
The final feature list is below:
General Features
--------------
- Language support (language files separate from php code)
- Templatized (html separate from php code)
- Server / User Timezone support
- Paging everywhere
- Change per-page results easily
- PHP Developer API
- Postgresql support
- Forgot password option
- Copy things (eg lists, newsletters, templates, autoresponders, forms)
- Built in templates (easy to add more)
- Only need to set up one cron job for scheduled sending, autoresponders and bounce processing, or they can be set up separately
- Reminder about cron setup. If it's switched on it will show a message telling you it has been switched on, that message will disappear once a job runs successfully.
- See when a cron job will run. It will count down and give you an idea of when the next send will go out.
- Remember login details
- Built in tutorials
- context-sensitive help / tutorials
- New design
- Improved user-interface
- If you only have access to one mailing list, you are automatically taken to the next step in whatever process you are performing
Lists
-----
- Bulk changes to list subscribers (change all to html/text, make them active/inactive)
- Copy lists
- Merge multiple lists into one list
- Save reply-to, bounce-address, bounce account information with a list
- Allow imap bounce account
- Allow extra mail settings to be saved per list (eg /notls or /nossl)
- Cron bounce processing if account information is available
- Bounce processing differentiates between types (hard, soft)
Custom Fields
-------------
- Associated with a mailing list not with a user (means sharing a list between user will show custom fields correctly)
- Can be associated with multiple lists at once
- New "radio button" type
- Better data checking when importing/subscribing
Manage Subscribers
------------------
- Search all of your lists at once
- Option to bypass filtering step

- Save different stages of subscribe. Eg subscribe request (time + ip address), subscribe confirm (time + ip address)
- Save different stages of unsubscribe. Eg unsubscribe request (time + ip address), unsubscribe confirm (time + ip address)
- Only show custom fields associated with the list a subscriber is on
- New "bounce" & "unsubscribe" status

- No need to refresh to upload a file or import from a url
- Check & warn about missing unsubscribe links
- Archives are an rss feed so easily changed and easily ported to an external website
- Choose whether to archive per newsletter
Sending Newsletters
-------------------
- Can send to multiple lists at once (removes duplicates before it starts)
- A send through the popup can be paused, cron turned on, it will pick it up and continue the send & vice-versa
- Cron sending will create the queue just before it starts (so if you schedule in advance, new subscribers will be picked up and any unsubscribes will be removed before starting the process)
- Can embed images into an email
- Change character set / encoding for each send
- Cron sending can pick up "broken" or interrupted mailings
- Auto-optimizing of sends (database is automatically optimized before & after a send)

- No need to refresh to upload a file or import from a url
- Option to add existing subscribers to the autoresponder
- Can embed images into an email

Users
-----

- Option to allow them to edit their own details
- Text/HTML footers which will get appended to the bottom of every email that user sends out

- Give a user permission to specific templates
- Enable / disable a user easily

I'm so excited for this release!!
This feature alone has made my day: - Can send to multiple lists at once (removes duplicates before it starts) Such a valuable feature for the list i send to, i've been using a different email program to compensate for that feature, not I can use sendstudio for all my needs!!!! |

Looks really good Chris. Congrats!
However, I'd love you move away from the "cron job" terminology in future versions. No other credible e-mail marketing software uses it and most users just care that the software can send e-mail and process bounces. The method by which this is done is immaterial. [ Chris' Note - it does make a difference to the set up of sendstudio which is why I need to know whether your server supports it or not. Once it's up and running you won't notice a difference - the messages about making sure cron is set up will disappear. ] |

[Hi Will, unfortunately it didn't no, but it is on the ToDo list for a future update] |

Mark [Editors Note: Hi Mark, the "NX" doesn't really stand for anything - we just came up with it one day and it sounded good so we stuck with it ;)] |

Chris!
awesome. What a great feature list (TONS of thinking planning coding AND TESTING) you "lifted"! Only 1 really important key feature is missing or I overlooked it in you run down? Is it now possible to add a message to an existing AR series (that always will have been partially already sent) and NX "knows", who gets the added new message(s) and also when, according to the set interval(s). This is from a marketing perspective extremely important, because it allows to add messages to series based on feedback... as you go. or allows testing of different additional up-sell ofers, etc. And every time you add a new message you make more money combined from All that get this additioanl message(s). So you can with time make your series 52 messages BIG and all receive it... as if it was set up from day 1. Example: you have 7 messages in the series and you add 2 more (months later) and set them to a delay of 3 days each. So depending "where" in the series the subscriber is, he gets it in 3 days following the last email of the series... if he is anywhere between he does not get it... only when the time comes. I can't await this release, even if this marketing "powerhouse" feature DOES not MAKE IT. As you had promised in your email. Aanother good reason... there is NO other system in Europe, that can handle this and only aweber to my knowledge can. If it is not to much heavy lifting, it would be a very powerful feature indeed, that all you customers would profit from widely. Incl. interspire with your own lists. [ Chris' Note: You can choose whether existing subscribers will get the new autoresponders or not. By default they will not, but there is a checkbox to tick and you're done. Note that will add *all* existing subscribers to the new autoresponder... If you already have autoresponders set to hours 2,4,6 and you add one at hour 5, subscribers who have already received hour 6 will get the new one as well. If I didn't understand your question, pop me an email - chris at interspire dot com and I'll try again. ] |

lol @ "Hi Mark, the "NX" doesn't really stand for anything - we just came up with it one day and it sounded good so we stuck with it"
I agree, it sounds impressive and very well suited to a major upgrade and for a piece of software that really does a brilliant job at managing an online mailing list of any sort. Can't wait for the upgrade. How will the upgrade work? How will I get hold of the new files to ftp and will it be complicated for someone not technically gifted? [ Chris' note - The upgrade procedure will be reasonably simple and upgrade instructions will be provided. Basically ftp the new files up (after getting them from the clientarea), go to sendstudio, follow the 4 step upgrade wizard and you're done. ] |

Hey guys,
Sounds good, quick question... What version of php did you develop it for, we are still running V4 would we need to upgrade if we got it? Thanks [From Mitch: Hi Magnusson. You can run PHP 4.1.2 or above, so no you shouldn't have to upgrade] |

Ok, beta going on 3 months now. Is the release coming soon?
[From Mitch: Hey WebFire. Actually 3 months isn't that long for a beta considering the complexity of building a product like Sendstudio NX. The release will be any day now. Just ironing out a few issues] |

Chris - this is an amazing product and outstanding upgrades. This should cost much more, except for us 'insiders'.
