ArticleLive NX 1.7 Preview

Hello All!

Instead of cramming all of the new features into ArticleLive NX 2.0, we've decided to include some of the important features into a release before then so that our patient customers can get the most important features first. The next release will be NX 1.7, and here's a preview of the new features it will contain:
  • User Groups - User management has never been easier. Instead of having to manage each single user's permissions, you can control a whole group in a few clicks! You can even assign users to multiple groups or restrict their control to certain categories. This can allow for advanced management such as category specific editors.
  • New Template System - We've built upon our existing system by completely removing PHP and HTML from each other. This allows designers much better access, and requires them to have no PHP knowledge at all. The release also comes with a set of brand new CSS driven tableless templates. (One of which is previewed below)
  • Better control  - With more settings than you can poke a stick at, you'll be able to manage every aspect of your site from your control panel. You can now specify which email to use for the contact page, author picture size control and number settings to control the number of news items, recent articles etc.
  • Public Side Features - Authors can now not only post their articles from the public side (and mark them as 'drafts'), they can edit their articles, and even post and edit their blogs too! Your authors will never have to see your control panel.
These are among some of the features in ArticleLive NX 1.7. I can't give an expected release date (do we ever?), only 'when its done'. So once all the templates are finished and the bugs are ironed out, we will get it out.

Here are some small shots. First is of one of the new templates, the second is of the re-designed control panel, on the settings page. I'll try and get some larger versions up soon!

Great work! Looking even better then the current version!

Will it in the new version also be possible to relate authors, blogs and news to categories?

That will be a great feature.

Kind regards.
John

[Hi John,

That feature won't be in NX 1.7. Its possible for NX 2.0, but I can't guarantee that.]

Looking good, and I am looking forward for the release.

Will visitors be able to sort articles in a category by rating, date published, etc?

[Hi Torgrim. Unfortunately that didn't make the cut for NX 1.7 as not enough people requested it. It IS on the feature list however so it will be included in a future release. Thanks for posting]

Just purchased ArticleLive today, only to find the v1.7 blog. Looks like it will be worth the wait, so I'll postpone my software download til it's released. Keep up the good work!

As usual, a great teaser and some features that will set your products not only ahead, but way out in front of the competition.

The only problem now is to decide on a niche I want to dominate!

Will the new product also have 'Spread the word' functionality built in??

Jordie's Reply: Sure will. There will be an option in the settings page to turn it off if you don't want it.

Sounds great! You guys won't give a specific release date, and I understand that. But do you expect the release date to be a matter of days, weeks, or months? And will upgrading from a non-modified current version be painless?

Jordie's Reply: Weeks. A month maximum I'd say, but don't hold me to that, unexpected things can pop up! But I'm trying my hardest. =)

Yes, updating will be painless, just upload the files, visit your admin (where the upgrade script will begin) and there will be a step by step wizard to upgrade everything for you.

Is Google Adsense space built into the templates?

[Hi Nina. Yes it is. You can add the AdSense code wherever you like and it will "push" the content around it down so it fits into place]

Hi Jordie,

Any plans to add a "Guestbook" feature in future releases?

[Editors note: Hi Ramesh, unfortunately no we're not. This isn't something a lot of our customers have requested but we will keep it in mind.]

Will there be an easy option to secure author login and admin areas via SSL? By the way, if anyone has a link to an easy tutorial/instructions so i can do this in my current version, it'd be much appreciated!

[Jordie: Our login system is already secure. If you feel you need additional security you'll have to get a programmer to edit the .htaccess file and do any other requirements needed.]

If I upgrade to v1.7, will I lose all the changes I have made to my existing version, in the panel code?

[Hi Dal,

Unfortunately, yes. This is because there are all new templates and an updated template system so the existing files will not just be dropable into the new version.

New version looks impressive. But one lacking still in there. Atriclelive actually not supporting multiple pages article. There is option in admin panel to publish multiple pages article but as Meta Title, Meta Description and Meta Keyword are all will be same for all pages of that article, Search Engines like Google usually penalise those pages by remove those pages from search engines.

So, it will be great if this feature added to the upcoming version. Thanks

I pay attention to the comment of Riki. I also have multiple pages articles. My articles pages are indexed by google as I remove all meta tag from article pages but all I see this following messages.

"In order to show you the most relevant results, we have omitted some entries very similar to the 5 already displayed. If you like, you can repeat the search with the omitted results included"

I have about 200 pages but only 5 are shown actually. Google index left and right side panels menu of all pages instead of first paragraph of actual content.

I know this is a very small changes for you. So please give me a favor and make some changes in this release so that search engines can show first paragraph as a description.

Hi Jordie,
I purchased ArticleLive the day after your v1.7 preview, and plan to wait for the release of 1.7 before downloading. Any guesstimates of how soon it will be available?

Thanks, Craig

[Jordie: Hi Craig, we're looking to release ArticleLive NX 1.7 in around 2 weeks.]

Hi Jordie
I can't tell from the entries above when the 2 weeks was - is it still due in Feb 07 ?

Looking forward to it :)
Thanks
Carl

[Jordie: Hi Carl! It will be Feb 07', or at the latest, the first week of March]

What's the release date looking like? Also is there a feature list for 2.0 and time frame? This year maybe?

Will this new templating system be used in all future updates? Atleast for the next 1-2 years?

Thanks.

[Jordie: Yes, the new templating system is here to stay. I don't foresee any further major changes to it. The release is coming very soon, and no word on 2.0 just yet I'm afraid.]

When, Articlelive NX v1.7 is released, would the demo site also be updated with the most current version (i.e myarticlesite.com and myarticlesite.com/admin)

Thanks and I keep up the great work!

[Jordie: Sure will be! As soon as its in the client area, it will also be up on the demo site.]

Hi. Is it possible to get some more and bigger screenshot's? And maybe some more info about the new things?

[From Mitch: Hi Klaus. As Jordie said it's *nearly* ready to test. We're still putting the final touches in place and when it's ready to we'll post more screenshots and info!]

Yeah, I also check every day, cause I have a new client site I want to use the new version for. And although I can use the current version to fill the database, I have postponed the visual design because of the new template system I want to use. And until then I cannot launch the site. My client is getting a bit impatient...
