In Part One of this tutorial series I showed you how to insert editable regions for restricted editing only. This was so that a clients edits could simply be restricted to certain areas of the page. In this case we were protecting the design and layout.
In Part Two, I then showed you that if you place any server side code outside an editable region that it will be protected from editing and will be maintained in the page when it is saved. This opened up a lot of dynamic possibilities for your websites and developing processes.
In this tutorial, I will show you how you can team up Webedit Professional and Dreamweaver to make sitewide editing fast and very efficient. You will need to understand the way we will update the site so that it can be applied to any program that has a templating system. I will also show you how to set up a site from scratch and make it workable within the Dreamweaver program.
In this tutorial, I will show you how to allow your clients to maintain a website within editable regions and allow yourself to make sitewide changes outside editable regions with a seamless process.
» WebEdit Restricted Editing Part Two - Using & protecting your dynamic code
You can use dynamic code in the same pages that you are editing with WebEdit Professional and through the use of editable regions, this code will stay intact as you edit only the static sections of the page.
In part one of this three part tutorial, I showed you what editable regions look like and how to easily insert them in your pages.
In this tutorial, I will show you how you can use editable regions and dynamic code on the same page to allow you to protect your dynamic code, whilst letting your clients/users to update the static sections of the page. By using editable regions in your page you will be restricting the users access to specified sections of the page and at the same time you will protect your dynamic code from being output as static html and overwritten.
» WebEdit Restricted Editing Part One - Inserting Editable Regions
In WebEdit Professional, Restricted editing mode allows you to "lock" the page being edited and only allows editing of predefined regions. We call these regions "editable regions".
These editable regions will stop curious editing by your clients (or novice users) in other parts of the page, and at the same time will protect your dynamic code from being rewritten by the editor.
