To sort/order a list of content, the content type must first exist.

Go to Menus & Lists > View Menus & Lists and click 'edit' on the list for the content type you wish to sort. In 'Main Options', find 'Sort the items by' and select what you would like to sort by and then select the direction you would like them to be sorted in. For example, to sort Categories alphabetically by Name, you would choose 'Name' and then 'ascending'. Once you've done that you may save your settings and view your changes.
