Smile Segmentation to X Number of Contacts

Is there a way in interspire to create a segment that will only give me X number of contacts from a given list?

We normally do a split sending but the way we do it is that we only send X number of contacts for a given mailer. I noticed that there is a % option in the split sending but it will not be accurate enough for us.

Is there a way to do this in IEM?

Thanks to clarify.

Hi Jollero,

The easiest way to do that is by adding new segment filters. You have to change code but is quite easy it uses a syntax similar to SQL. Only add a a limit on the query and that is all.

Can you direct me to any references that can get me started with the modifications your suggesting?

Thanks a lot!

Hi Jollero,

We actually needed to do this... had a client w/list of over 1 million subscribers and needed to segment into groups of 250,000 subscribers to send to at a time. The client only had email address data, nothing else we could segment on. So this is what we did:

1) Created a custom field named "Subscriber number" and associated it to the list
2) Got the fieldid for this new custom field (was 12)
3) Ran this MySQL command:

insert into email_subscribers_data (subscriberid, fieldid, data) select subscriberid, 12, subscriberid from email_list_subscribers where listid=2;

4) This auto-populated the actual subscriberID number into this custom field "Subscriber number"
5) Then we could segment based on this, e.g. segment subscribers where value of "Subscriber number" was between 0 and 250,001 which gave us the first 250,000 subscribers on the list.

Hope this helps!
