Ability to create custom rules based on anything and everything in the store = priceless.
I think the discounting rules in v5.0 are a first draft that can be worked on. A fully featured discounting engine will be along at a later date I'm sure...I hope...!

I have clients who purchased in the last 6 months who will be upset at having to pay the amounts being asked for v5 - My feeling is a lot will stick with 4.x - its not somthing I want but justifying the upgrade cost (ontop of custom template upgrade costs) is hard to do.
myshop - Just call up their sales team.. I dont think Chris (Software Engineer) would know/care anyhow about pricing.. Last time there was an upgrade for this, I simply called up their sales team and stated the same argument you have above, and they gave me a very decent discount..

Looks like UK counties are back in in 4.0.7 - check the changelog

No idea what this means for people who've removed them or added them back in, but suggest testing it before doing anything on your live site (as always).

Hokay, the list of counties has been re-done by the looks of it:

Note that by the looks of it it's simply re-inserting these so if you're on a version before 4.0.6 and follow the upgrade path through 4.0.6 and 4.0.7, all your current county data for shipping addresses and orders still gets wiped in 4.0.6, then re-added in the latest version so these counties obviously won't have the same ID value in the database that they used to have. That might be important if anyone's done any form of mod that hooks into that data but I'm not sure - thought it was worth mentioning either way

Wrexham is missing off that list though - technically it's a County Borough now, but if you lived there you would still be used to picking "Wrexham" in the county drop-down list if you were from there and were using the drop-down list!

Jersey and Guernsey are also missing, and are not in the Country list either (but you would expect these to be in the County list), so no shipping rules can be created for them for ship-by-weight at present it appears.

As has been mentioned earlier in this thread, you can technically add your own without a problem and remove the ones that are there, but you'd have to keep an eye on this sort of update where counties are being removed and added to make sure there are no duplicates!

I'm beginning to appreciate the complexity of maintaining an "accurate" list now as everyone has their own thoughts on the matter, but the only other way to do it would be to remove them completely (and I can hear Jonathan shouting "hurrah" from miles away ) and add Jersey, Guernsey and Isle of Man as countries in order to give them their own shipping rates, but this is simply not intuitive for the people living there as they wouldn't think (or in most case wouldn't think) "hang on, we're a separate country" and look under there. You're then back to people in Jersey typing it into the free-text county field and selecting UK as their country and getting an incorrect postage price (at a bargain rate ). So, for those of us doing Ship by Weight, an "accurate" county list is required.

As Jonathan says, if there's the ability to remove them again in v5 that would suit everyone in the UK.

I just requested a refund for 4.0.3 because of the lack of features I needed.
Surely you bought the software knowing what the 'features' were?
