Customers Are Unable to Checkout on My Store With Internet Explorer 8

Affected Versions: Interspire Shopping Cart versions earlier than 4.0.10 and 5.0.6.

Interspire have identified an issue with the express checkout component in Interspire Shopping Cart and Microsoft Internet Explorer 8, where when moving form one step to another during the checkout, the billing and shipping address forms will collapse in to the page behind other steps. This issue causes customers checking out on the store to be unable to enter their billing or shipping details.

Details for manually patching your store can be found below. An update is expected to be released shortly that also addresses the problem.

How To Tell If Your Store Is Affected
  1. Using Microsoft Internet Explorer 8.0, add one or more items to your shopping cart and then proceed to the checkout.
  2. Choose to register a new account, checkout as a guest or login to an existing account and click Continue.
  3. Observe, that after the billing/shipping details section expands (and possibly after moving your mouse over the area or clicking on one or more fields), that the form fields shift location, as is demonstrated in the screen capture below.

Patching Your Store - Method 1: Updating Your Store Design

If you're running one of our built in store designs, we have released patched versions of the store designs. You can simply check for an updated version of the template and download a new version of the template from within the control panel. To download the new version of your store design:
  1. Login to the Interspire Shopping Cart Control Panel.
  2. Click on Store Design from the top right navigational links.
  3. Click Check for New Version under your current store design.
  4. When the new version notification appears, click Download New Version to automatically have the updated version installed on your store.
Patching Your Store - Method 2: Manually Updating Your Store Design
If you have a customized store design that you've built yourself, or you've extensively customized one of our built in store designs, you may want to update your template file yourself.

If you're running Interspire Shopping Cart 5, to manually patch your store:
  1. Via FTP, navigate to templates/__master/Snippets/.
  2. Download the ExpressCheckoutChooseAddress.html snippet to your local machine and open it in a text editor of your choice.
  3. In the template file, find the HTML code outlined below:
        </div>
    </form>
    <script type="text/javascript">
  4. Replace it with:
            <br class="Clear" />
    </div>
    </form>
    <script type="text/javascript">
  5. Save and upload the changes.
  6. If you've customized the ExpressCheckoutChooseAddress.html file in one or more of your customized store designs, apply the same changes to that file.
If you're running Interspire Shopping Cart 4, to manually patch your store:
  1. Via FTP, navigate to templates/[Name of your active store design]/Snippets/.
  2. Download the ExpressCheckoutChooseAddress.html snippet to your local machine and open it in a text editor of your choice.
  3. In the template file, find the HTML code outlined below:
  4.     </div>
    </form>
    <script type="text/javascript">
  5. Replace it with:
            <br class="Clear" />
    </div>
    </form>
    <script type="text/javascript">
  6. Save and upload the changes.
Technical Details
This issue is caused by changes made to Internet Explorer 8.0, that are incompatible with the animations library in jQuery 1.2.6. The slideUp/slideDown animations used by the express checkout trigger a layout rendering issue in Internet Explorer 8.0 whereby it causes the floated form to slide up beyond the parent container.

Interspire will be addressing the issue by including a newer version of jQuery in the next maintenance release and with the changes mentioned above.
