The shopping cart has the ability to use search friendly URLs to make finding and indexing your pages easier, thus, helping to improve your page rank with the search engine. This feature has to be supported by the server to work correctly. If you don't know whether your server supports this, then ask your web hosting company. The shopping cart can automatically detect whether the server does or does not support this feature, and can turn this feature on or off for you automatically with the right setting. Usually you will want to enable this feature unless there are other reasons not to have it enabled. If you would like to enable this feature then follow the steps given below.
- Make sure you are logged into the control panel of your shopping cart. Then click the blue link Settings to make a drop down menu appear. In this menu click the Store Settings link.
- When the page loads you will want to scroll down to the section called Search Engine Optimization. In this section you will find a setting for Search Engine Friendly URLs.
- In the selection box click and select Enable if available is you would like to use this feature. If you would like to force this feature then select Yes, enable search engine friendly URLs. If you would like to disable this feature then select No, do not enable search engine friendly URLs.
To have the shopping cart automatically detect what setting to use then you will want to select
Enable if available. This will be the most safest approach if you are unsure whether your server allows this.
