Expanded Possibilities with New Automation Triggers

We are excited to announce a major expansion to Interspire Email Marketer’s trigger system. New triggers bring powerful new automation capabilities that will save you time and help you engage your contacts more effectively.

What’s New?

List and Segment Subscription Triggers

You can now create triggers that automatically fire when someone subscribes to a specific contact list or segment. This opens up a world of automation possibilities that were previously difficult or impossible to implement.

Real-world example: Let’s say you have a specific opt-in form on your website for a particular product or service. You want contacts who sign up through that form to be added to two lists: a specific product list and your general master contact list. Before this update, you would have needed complex workarounds or manual processes. Now, you can simply create a trigger that runs every time someone is added to the product list and automatically adds them to your master list as well.

Autoresponder Engagement Tracking

Previously, triggers could only fire on opens and clicks of regular email campaigns (newsletters). Now you can create triggers based on autoresponder engagement as well:

  • Autoresponder Opened: Fire a trigger when a contact opens a specific autoresponder email
  • Autoresponder Link Clicked: Fire a trigger when a contact clicks a link in a specific autoresponder email

This means you can now build sophisticated automation sequences that respond to how your contacts engage with your autoresponder series.

For example, if someone clicks a link in your third autoresponder email showing interest in a premium product, you could automatically add them to a special “hot prospects” list or send them a targeted follow-up campaign.

Owner Notifications

A new action has been added to triggers: Notify the list owner when this trigger is fired. This standalone action sends an email notification to the list owner whenever a trigger activates, including complete details about:

  • Which trigger was activated
  • The subscriber email address
  • The contact list or segment involved
  • The trigger type

This is invaluable for staying informed about important subscriber activities in real-time. For instance, you could get notified immediately when a VIP subscriber joins a specific list, or when someone demonstrates high engagement by clicking multiple links in your campaigns.

What This Means For You

These enhancements create numerous new automation opportunities:

Cross-list Management: Automatically maintain related lists. When someone subscribes to your “Newsletter Subscribers” list, automatically add them to your “All Contacts” master list.

Segmentation Automation: When a contact qualifies for a specific segment (like “Engaged Users” or “High-Value Prospects”), automatically trigger actions like sending a special offer or adding them to an exclusive contact list.

Engagement-Based Workflows: Build sophisticated multi-stage campaigns that adapt based on how contacts interact with your autoresponders. Someone who opens your emails but doesn’t click might receive different follow-up content than someone who actively clicks links.

Real-Time Alerts: Get instant notifications when important subscriber events occur, allowing you to follow up personally with high-value prospects or take immediate action on critical activities.

Hybrid Automated and Manual Workflows: Use the owner notification feature to blend automation with personal touch. For example, automatically send a welcome series when someone subscribes to your premium list, but also notify the sales team so they can reach out personally.

Getting Started

All these new trigger types are available now in the trigger creation interface:

  1. Go to Autoresponders > View Triggers
  2. Click Create a Trigger
  3. Under Activate This Trigger, you’ll see the new options:
    • Based on a subscription to contact list
    • Based on a subscription to segment
    • Autoresponder Opened
    • Autoresponder Link Clicked

And when configuring the actions, you will find the new option:

  • Notify the list owner when this trigger is fired

The possibilities are extensive. Start small by automating one manual process, then expand as you discover new opportunities. Advanced triggers put powerful marketing automation within reach, without requiring complex integrations or additional software.
