Creating and Editing Emails in Interspire
Interspire Email Marketer includes multiple editors to help you create and customize email content based on your workflow and preferences.
These editors are used to build and modify newsletters, email templates, autoresponders, and other content types. Each editor is accompanied by a separate plain-text input box, allowing you to provide both HTML and text versions of your email for improved deliverability.
Available Editors
Interspire provides three email editors:
| Editor | Best For | Hosted Where | Key Features |
|---|---|---|---|
| TinyMCE | HTML editing, code imports, API content | Locally hosted | WYSIWYG UI, full HTML access |
| BuilderJS | Modern visual editing, self-hosted | Locally hosted | Drag-and-drop, inline CSS styling |
| Unlayer | Visual design with structured components | Remotely loaded | Drag-and-drop interface, mobile-ready output |
These editors are available when creating:
- Newsletters
- Email templates
- Autoresponders
In most other cases, say for exmple when creating dynamic content tags, the TinyMCE editor is used.
Choosing the Right Editor
When creating a new email or template, you’ll be prompted to select one of the available editors. Your choice depends on your workflow:
-
TinyMCE: Ideal for the WYSIWYG word processor style editor, and working with raw HTML or importing templates from external builders (e.g., Litmus, Stripo).
-
BuilderJS: Recommended for users who want a modern visual builder that’s fully self-hosted unlike Unlayer that is remotely loaded.
-
Unlayer: Best for drag-and-drop visual design with structured blocks.
⚠️ Editor selection is permanent per item. Once a newsletter, template, or autoresponder is created with an editor, you cannot change the editor for that item.
BuilderJS Improvements v8.7.5
In version 8.7.5, the BuilderJS drag-and-drop editor was upgraded to its latest major version, giving you a more reliable and responsive editing surface. This release also includes the following enhancements:
- RSS widget: Embed dynamic feed content directly into your email by dragging in the RSS widget. You can configure display options such as the number of items to show and whether to display thumbnails, so the email automatically reflects your latest feed entries.
- Isolated preview: Email previews now render inside an isolated frame, so the editor’s styles no longer conflict with the admin interface. Previews appear much closer to how your recipients will actually see the email.
Plain-Text Version
Regardless of which editor you choose, every email can include a plain-text version as well. This version is critical for:
- Improving deliverability
- Supporting legacy or security-focused email clients
- Providing a fallback when HTML cannot be rendered
See Text Editor for information on the plain‐text editor.
You can also validate your email, ensuring that it displays correctly in a variety of popular email clients.
See Validating an Email for information on checking how you email displays in popular email clients.
Email Preheader Text v8.7.2
What is Preheader Text?
Preheader text (also called “preview text”) is the snippet of text that appears after the subject line in email inboxes. It provides recipients with a preview of your email content before they open it, significantly impacting open rates.
The preheader field is available when using the TinyMCE or BuilderJS editors. When using Unlayer, the preheader is configured within the Unlayer editor itself.
Where to Find the Preheader Field
The preheader text field appears in the content editing step of:
- Newsletters — Step 2 of newsletter creation
- Autoresponders — Step 4 of autoresponder creation v8.7.5
- Email Templates — Template content editing screen v8.7.5
Best Practices for Preheader Text
To make the most of preheader text in your emails:
- Keep it concise - Most email clients display 40-130 characters
- Complement your subject line - Don’t repeat it; expand on the message
- Include a call-to-action - Give recipients a reason to open
- Test across clients - Preview text displays differently across email clients
